In the U11G, Lauren Bell was 1st in 150m in 21.82, a PB and also champion best performance (CBP). Lauren also finished 1st in the long jump (3.54m) and took 2nd place in the shot putt (5.83m). Nicola Dalgarno competed in the 150m (28.74), long jump (2.16m) and shot putt (3.77m).

Emma Bowie threw a new PB and Club Record of 27.02m to win her section. She was presented with her award from Mark Dry, Scotland's Commonwealth Games hammer thrower. She has now been selected to train with the 'Scotland's Got Talent' silver grade.
Very well done Emma.
Pitreavie Trophy Meet - Pitreavie 12 September
4 athletes went to Pitreavie, Fife and did MRR proud. Dionne Milne (U13) ran a new PB in the 800m of 2.42.29. She won the javelin with another PB of 20.09m and was 2nd in the shot putt with 8.02m. Callum Alexander (U15) ran 14.72 for the 100m, 29.72 for the 200m and had a new PB of 29.52m to finish 2nd in the javelin. MRR came away with 6 medals from the 4 athletes, showing that we can compete with confidence against Central Belt athletes.

South Highland Schools Track Champs
Speyside High School (and MRR) athletes, Emma Bowie, Ben and Jack Mitchell, were competing in the above event at Inverness, Tuesday 30th August. This is primarily a team event, although they competed as individuals. All gained new PBs in excellent weather conditions. Emma improved her shot to 8.24m and her javelin to 16.05m. Ben has improved his high jump by 5cm to 1.45m. He should have run the hurdles and 400m, but the injury he sustained whilst helping the U15B to the new club record at the league last week was starting to bother him. He withdrew in order to have no problems on the weekend at the league final. Jack Mitchell had 2 PBs at shot 6.15m, and javelin14.83m.
Well done all.

Petrofac Athletics League Meet #4 - Inverness 22nd August
At the final Petrofac meeting, club athletes performed really well gaining 28 personal bests and 2 club records. The club records came from U11 Lauren Bell in the shot, with a throw of 5.98m, and the U15boys team for the 4x200m relay. James Bell (U13) substituted for Lewis Sim who had hurt his leg, and along with Callum Alexander, Gavin MacDonald and Ben Mitchell ran 1.57.43.
Despite the good performances, we do not have enough athletes competing to ensure that all groups have the opportunity to make the final. Lauren Bell (U11g) has already taken 5 club records and remains unbeaten in all her sprint races this season, yet she has only one other Roadrunner in her group. Dionne Milne (U13), with 3 club records and currently leading the Scottish discus rankings, also has the support of only one other athlete. The result is that neither of them will be in the final.
Teams making the final are the U15g, U15b, U17m and Senior men and women. The final is on September 5th at Inverness.
Thank you to all athletes who have come and supported the track season. You have seen how you have improved with regular competition and I hope you have all enjoyed a long but worthwhile season.
The final meeting is the HIPPO Open Graded Meet on Saturday September 18th at the Inverness track. Entry forms are on the HIPPO website.

Scotstoun 14th August
Emma Bowie went to the Scottish Age 15 championships at Scotstoun. She finished 3= for discus but, on count back to next best throw, she lost out by 3cm. 2 medallists were English and Emma remains 2nd in the Scottish rankings. She was 6th in the hammer. She has only been throwing hammer for 6 weeks.
Well done Emma.

Busy Weekend for Garioch
Ian Garioch had a busy weekend, but a very successful one. Ian flew to Amsterdam on Friday and on Saturday he ran 400m in 48.11, in wet conditions from lane one.
He then flew back to Wishaw to take part in the Men's League. A super run from Ian saw him win with a personal best of 47.49, taking ½ sec off his PB. As Ian was not racing in his MRR vest this, unfortunately, does not count as a club record.
Congratulations on a fine weekend Ian.

Scottish Young Athletes Final - Grangemouth Sunday 1st August
6 of our athletes represented Team HIPPO at the final. Jack Mitchell threw SP, Gavin MacDonald ran the 800m, Ben Mitchell the 80mH, James Wilson the 100mH, 1500mS/C and the 3000m. Dionne Milne threw SP and Emma Bowie SP and DT.
Dionne was 1st at U13 SP and received her gold medal. Dionne achieved the national grade 1 for her SP. Emma was 2nd in both DT and SP and also received the silver medal. Emma achieved the national grade 3 for her DT. By the afternoon the weather was so atrocious that the throwing circles could not be kept clear of water. Some events were cancelled.
Hero of the Meet was James Wilson, who gained PB's at both hurdles and steeple-chase (the latter by 8 seconds). After finishing the steeple-chase, a really leg sapping event, he was asked to run the 3000m as the HIPPO runner was injured. He has not run this distance before on the track but went out to help the team and gained a 3rd PB.
Congratulations to the prize winners and well done all.
Rest of season dates:
Petrofac Meet No. 4 - Inverness Sunday 22nd August
Petrofac Final (Not all age groups) - Inverness Sunday 5th September
HIPPO Open Graded Meet (Last track meet for 2010) - Inverness Saturday 18th September
Report courtesy of Margery.
TNT Throws Meet - Inverness 25th July (amended)
After the above competition, which Dionne Milne and Emma Bowie attended, Dionne is now ranked number 1 for both discus and shot putt in Scotland, 2nd in UK for discus and also 2nd in Scottish all time history for under 13 Girls throwing. Dionne has also claimed Paula Lawrie's under 13 Girls shot putt club record which has been standing since 1997 and improved on her discus club record. In the hammer, her first attempt at this event, Dionne threw a commendable 21.99, a club record.
Emma also claimed an under 15 Girls club record, which has been standing since 1992, when she threw 25.96 in the discus at the Petrofac Meet in June, which placed her number 2 in the Scottish rankings. This time around she threw 25.93 (1st place) and also took first place in the shot putt. In the hammer, also a first attempt in this event, Emma threw a massive 26.02 which put her straight into the Scottish rankings at number 2.
Congratulations and well done girls.

Garioch wins Bronze at Seniors
21 year old Ian Garioch won Bronze in the 400m at the Scottish Senior Championships & Commonwealth Games Trials in Dunfermline at the weekend.
Ian equalled his personal best of 47.96 in a very competitive race (1st 47.05, 2nd 47.45). This also ensures that Ian will be in the 4x400m Scottish relay in Birmingham next weekend at the Birmingham Games.
Well done Ian and good luck for next weekend.
Scottish Masters Championships - Pitreavie 12 July
Margery Swinton won the W65 hammer, discus, shot and javelin events.
Scottish Young Athletes League - Aberdeen 4 July
12 of our juniors were selected to compete for the HIPPO team. This is a higher standard competition and pushes our athletes to perform to their best. There were 9 personal bests for Callum Alexander, Lauren Bell, Lara Dalgarno, Michael Laing, Ben Mitchell, Hamish Sim, Lewis Sim and James Wilson. Dionne Milne won the shot putt with yet another throw over 8m.
The HIPPO team have made the Scottish final for the 3rd year in a row. 7 MRR juniors have been selected, so far, to go to Grangemouth on August 1st. Maybe this year we can qualify for the UK finals in England. The selected athletes are Callum Alexander, Emma Bowie, Moray Goodfellow, Dionne Milne, Ben Mitchell, Lewis Sim and James Wilson.
Petrofac Athletics League Meet #3 - Inverness 27 June
Our small team of junior athletes performed well and there were 26 personal bests. Lauren Bell continued her winning form at the 100m. She has won every Petrofac and Young Athletes sprint race this season. Emma Bowie’s winning discus throw put her 2nd on the Scottish U15 rankings. It was great to have Oscar Heald and Bella Morrison back on the track. Both had personal bests.
Throughout the season all competing athletes have steadily improved their personal performances but a lack of numbers means it is unlikely that the U11 and U13 age groups will qualify for the final. There is one more meet on August 22nd. The final is in September.

They were U11 Andrew Stoker, Fraser Marr and Lauren Bell, U13 Dionne Milne and Jack Mitchell, U15 Ben Mitchell, Lewis Sim and Gavin MacDonald, U17 James Wilson. This league offers a higher standard of competition than the Petrofac and to be selected is an honour. HIPPO finished 2nd overall. Individual results are not yet available but there were some pb's.
Sunday 25th April, Petrofac League at Inverness: Lauren Bell, U11, took the club record for 100m with 14.63. There were a number of pb's across all the age groups. It would be nice to see more of the juniors wanting to try the track, since from a membership of over 80 juniors, we are struggling to put in teams. We had only 19 juniors, U11 to U17. To field reasonable teams, we need a minimum of 32 juniors. With our small numbers, we managed to finish 4th U11G and 6th U11B, 7th place for both U13 teams, 3rd place for both U15 teams and 4th place for both U17 teams. The senior men and women finished 2nd. If anyone else is interested, please contact Margery Swinton on 01340 810662.
